Key Information About Our Padel Coach in Palma de Majorca : Alfonso Aguado
Alfonso Aguado hails from Girona, a city north of Barcelona. In his early years, he was an excellent local tennis player in his region. However, in 1997, over 25 years ago, he made a shift to dedicate himself to padel. This was during the early days of padel in Spain, giving him extraordinary experience !
In 2000, realizing that tennis and padel were fundamentally different, he sought training to improve his own skills. He traveled to Barcelona because the Catalan Padel Federation, the first official padel federation in Spain, offered training to become a padel coach. Alfonso was among the first to receive his certification through this federation. However, he wanted to go further and develop his own methodology with a clear goal: to execute all padel shots like a professional, but with simple explanations.
He spent three years observing professional padel players and developing a method to make padel accessible to everyone. He famously states, “Everyone can execute all padel shots. There are no bad padel players, only bad coaches!” Ironically, he challenges the most skeptical about certain shots (with his characteristic humor) that if he can’t teach them within an hour, the course is refunded! And it works!
This methodology led him to success on the island of Majorca, where he now offers Padel courses in Palma de Majorca. He has coached the official Majorca team and has worked with 11 Padel players who competed on the Premier padel. He even spent summers coaching stars like Juani Mieres and Pablo Lima, well-known figures in the Padel world.
He became the Director of Padel at the Rafa Nadal Academy, a well-known center on the island of Majorca, for three years. He had the opportunity to play padel with Rafa Nadal and humorously remarks on the difference between tennis and padel, saying, “If I win padel games against Rafa, on the other hand, I wouldn’t be able to score a single point in tennis!” That’s settled! Padel is a different sport. Today, he is the head of the Softee Academy, the fourth-largest manufacturer of Padel rackets sold worldwide (they manufacture rackets for many well-known public brands), and now a coach for ToPadel.
THE CONCEPT AND FUNDAMENTALS OF PADEL ACCORDING TO ALFONSO AGUADO
Padel should be easy. If your padel isn’t easy or it causes injuries, it means it’s not good or the technique isn’t optimized. All students should be able to execute all the shots. So, it’s up to the coach to identify the keys that will unlock the player’s technical potential !
However, fully aware that not all players have the same level, predispositions, or physical abilities, Alfonso won’t train all students in the same way. Specificities and advantages of each player must be taken into account. And each one must be guided towards a game that suits them best and helps them make the most of their strengths in terms of tactics.

« During my first training camp in France in Perpignan, padel was still in its early stages. So, I wanted to translate all the specific Padel vocabulary before arriving there :
– chiquita = small ball,
– bajada = glass exit, etc…
… and I embarrassed myself trying to teach my students the famous ‘vipère’ (viper)…. I presented it to them, explained it to them… until the players understood the shot and asked me if I meant ‘vibora’ (snake). That day, I realized that the language of padel had become international! But what a waste of time on translation !”
