David Cuesta, padel coach in Las Palmas, in a few words :
Since the beginning of my journey, I have always aimed to get the best training possible to pass on my knowledge to my students and players in the best way. I am passionate about padel and hold License 37.400 issued by the Spanish and Canary Islands Padel Federations. I am currently based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in Spain.
I have earned several certifications, including National Coach titles from the FEP and the RPP, as well as the International Coach title from the International Coach Academy, which I obtained in 2007. Additionally, I received the Regional Coach title from the Canary Islands Padel Federation in 2016.
I have also been a National Referee for the Spanish Padel Federation since 2019 and an International Referee since 2024. My dedication and passion for this sport drive me to give my best in every training session and competition.
I have had the opportunity to lead the padel schools in two municipalities of the Madrid Community: Nuevo Baztán and Villar del Olmo. Moreover, I have taught and run courses at renowned clubs in Madrid, including:
• Club de Padel Megaindoor (Arganda del Rey) in 2012
• Set Padel Indoor (Alcalá de Henares) from 2013 to 2014
• VipLoeches (Loeches) from 2014 to 2015
• Tac Tec Sport: Padel and Tennis School Gala León (Villalvilla)
These experiences have helped me grow as a coach and contribute to the development of padel in the region. Today, I’m thrilled to join the ToPadel team!
Key Aspects of Padel According to David Cuesta
As a padel coach in Las Palmas, I see padel as a highly strategic sport, comparable to chess. It’s not just about mastering striking techniques but also about honing intuition and anticipating the opponent’s moves. Each point is played like a true battle of wits, where thinking and strategy are just as crucial as physical performance.
The Key Strengths of David Cuesta’s Coaching in Las Palmas
Given the limited time available during lessons or training sessions in Las Palmas, it’s crucial to focus on each player’s skills and strengths to help them handle the various situations that may arise during a match.
What should you do when your opponent complicates your game? For example:
• When you’re forced to hit from uncomfortable positions.
• When they play a shot that’s completely different from what you expected.
• When the ball bounces unpredictably, especially after hitting the grid.
• When a slip forces you to continue the point from the ground.
It’s essential not to remain passive in the face of these challenges but to quickly find effective solutions. In attack, making wise shot choices and identifying your opponent’s weaknesses are crucial to gaining an advantage. In defense, constant mobility and, above all, patience are key factors to consider.
I often tell my players: “Padel starts with a P, just like patience.” This phrase perfectly encapsulates the mindset needed to excel in this sport.
